Crown Melbourne taxi and airport transfers

ME CABS runs pre-booked transfers to and from Crown Melbourne in Southbank — airport runs for Crown Towers, Crown Metropol and Crown Promenade guests, event and conference transport, and pickups at any hour. Crown covers around two city blocks, so we agree the meeting point when you book: valet sits at the Atrium Entrance on Whiteman Street, and we'll name the right door for your tower or venue. Fixed fare, agreed before you travel.

Before you plan the trip

Crown never closes. The last tram does.

01

Fact one

The complex runs around the clock. The network doesn't.

Melbourne's Night Network runs all-night trains and six tram routes on Friday and Saturday nights only. Crown operates a hotel, restaurant and entertainment complex seven nights a week, with roughly 1,600 rooms above it. Sunday to Thursday, once the last service goes, a guest leaving a late dinner or finishing a function has no all-night public transport — and a hotel guest with a 5.30am airport departure never had one.

A 5.30am flight means leaving Crown around 3.30am. We run then. Not much else does.

02

Fact two

“Meet me at Crown” is not an address.

The complex spans around 510,000 square metres — roughly two city blocks — with three hotel towers, a ballroom, a conference centre, a cinema, a spa, retail and a long restaurant list, and multiple entrances across multiple street frontages. Valet operates at the Atrium Entrance on Whiteman Street, Southbank. That is the one entrance Crown names publicly, and it is our anchor point.

Everything else on the site needs a named door. We agree it when you book, so nobody is crossing two blocks with luggage at 4am looking for a car.

The Atrium Entrance, parking conditions and venue details are current as at 21 September 2026 and are re-checked quarterly against Crown's own published information. Entrance arrangements change for large events — we confirm the door with you when you book.

Where to meet the car

Two city blocks, several street frontages, and one door that everyone can find.

Valet operates at the Atrium Entrance on Whiteman Street — the one entrance Crown names publicly. For your tower, your event or your restaurant we agree the exact door when you book and repeat it in your confirmation, so nobody is crossing the complex with luggage.

Crown is about two city blocks. Tell us the tower or the venue, not the complex — and we give you a door.

Getting there without a car

A kilometre from the CBD, and well served — until it isn’t.

Trams on two frontages, two stations across the river and a promenade to walk along. If one of them gets you there, take it. Below is where a booked car still wins.

Location

Southbank, on the south bank of the Yarra, about 1 km from the CBD across the river.

Trams

Several routes serve the Clarendon Street and Southbank frontages. Check ptv.vic.gov.au for the current routes and the nearest stop to your door.

Trains

Flinders Street and Southern Cross are both a walk across the river. Fine in daylight with no luggage; less fine at 5am with two suitcases.

Night Network

All-night trains and six tram routes run Friday and Saturday only. Sunday to Thursday there is no all-night service.

Walking

Pleasant along the promenade. Long if you're at the far end of a two-block complex, and not an option with luggage or in weather.

Night Network coverage is current as at September 2026 and re-checked annually. We publish the shape of the network, not a timetable — check ptv.vic.gov.au for routes and times.

Where a booked car wins.

  • Early airport departures. A 5.30am flight means leaving Crown around 3.30am. Nothing else runs.

  • Luggage. Three hotel towers' worth of arrivals and departures, and no one wants a tram with two cases.

  • Sunday to Thursday, any late finish. Dinner, a show, a function — the network has already stopped.

  • Events at the Palladium and the Conference Centre. Where 1,500 people leave at once.

  • Anyone who has been at a function. And shouldn't be driving.

Two cases and a 4am start

That’s a car, not a tram. Set the pickup time now and it is already arranged.

What we do here

Seven reasons a Crown guest calls us.

01

Airport transfers for Crown hotel guests

Crown Towers, Crown Metropol and Crown Promenade to Melbourne Airport or Avalon, door to door. Fixed fare, flight tracked, driver waiting, and a named pickup door so nobody is wandering a two-block complex at 4am with luggage. The return leg can be booked before you land.

02

Events, conferences and the Palladium

The Palladium seats around 1,500 and hosts the Brownlow Medal and the Logie Awards; the Conference Centre and Aviary run corporate programmes year-round. Multiple vehicles to one schedule, one coordinator, Cabcharge accepted, and staged departures so guests aren't queuing.

03

Late-night and after-hours pickups

Any hour, any night. Set the time when you book and the car is allocated to you — which matters most Sunday to Thursday, when there is no all-night service at all.

04

Dinner and a night out

Nobu, Rockpool, Gradi, Bistro Guillaume, Silks, the Conservatory and the rest. Book the car for after the table, not after you've finished looking for one.

05

Weddings and private events

Crown runs a substantial wedding and private-function business. Guest shuttles, bridal party transport, staged arrivals and departures, one point of contact on the day. Call 1300 012 018 and tell us the date.

06

Groups and maxi taxis

Six or seven in one vehicle, one fare, one door. Simpler than splitting a party across cars at a venue this size. Maxis are limited in number, so event nights want booking ahead.

07

Accessible transport

Wheelchair accessible vehicles, booked in advance, with the drop-off and pickup door agreed beforehand. MPTP members receive 50% off the total fare, up to a $60 subsidy per trip.

Accessible transport & MPTP

The door is agreed before the trip, not found on the day.

  • Wheelchair accessible vehicles must be booked in advance. They are limited in number and we hold them for the bookings that need them.
  • We agree the drop-off and pickup door with you before the trip, not on the day. Crown is two city blocks with several street frontages, and the right door is the difference between a short kerb-to-lobby transfer and a long one.
  • Multi Purpose Taxi Program members receive 50% off the total fare, up to a $60 subsidy per trip. Tell us you are an MPTP member when you book.

Why ME CABS

We don’t surge. A function finishing at once doesn’t change your fare.

Why trust us

  • Fixed fare agreed before you travel. No meter running while the car works its way around a two-block complex.
  • Pre-booked and allocated to your time — which is the only thing that works for a 3.30am airport run.
  • We agree the meeting door when you book and repeat it in your confirmation.
  • Registered commercial passenger vehicles and accredited drivers. Cabcharge accepted, and MPTP recognised.

Why not rideshare

  • Surge is worst exactly when a venue this size empties.
  • Pin drift across 510,000 square metres and several street frontages. “Your driver is nearby” is not the same as your driver finding you.
  • No accessible vehicle on demand, no MPTP, and no coordination for a 1,500-person function.

Why not drive

  • Event-night surcharges apply in the car park on exactly the nights you'd be there.
  • Retrieving a car from a 5,000-space facility at the end of a long night is its own small ordeal.
  • If you've been at a function, you shouldn't be driving anyway.

Why book now

  • Hotel departures cluster hard at 4–6am. Those slots go first.
  • Major event nights — the Brownlow, the Logies, large conferences — are the tightest dates in the calendar.
  • Maxis and accessible vehicles are limited and must be reserved.

Agreed? Set the time, the door and the fare now, and the morning takes care of itself.

The complex

Three hotels, a ballroom, and two city blocks of doors.

Crown Melbourne sits in Southbank on the south bank of the Yarra, covering around 510,000 square metres — roughly two city blocks — about 1 km from the CBD across the river.

Three hotels: Crown Towers (around 481 rooms, five-star), Crown Metropol (around 658 rooms) and Crown Promenade (around 465 rooms). The Palladium ballroom seats around 1,500 and hosts the Brownlow Medal and the Logie Awards; the Conference Centre and Aviary handle corporate and private events.

Restaurants include Nobu, Rockpool, Gradi, Silks, Conservatory, Koko, Bistro Guillaume and Marmont, alongside casual dining and quick service. Also on site: a cinema, Kingpin bowling and arcade, Crown Spa, and luxury and casual retail.

Hotel and venue line-ups change. Current as at 21 September 2026, re-checked quarterly.

Questions

The things the concierge gets asked.

Ask us on 1300 012 018

Where do taxis pick up at Crown Melbourne?

Crown covers around two city blocks with several entrances, so we agree the door when you book and repeat it in your confirmation. Valet operates at the Atrium Entrance on Whiteman Street, Southbank, and we'll name the right entrance for your hotel tower or event.

Can you collect me at 4am for an early flight?

Yes. Early departures are the most common Crown booking we take. Melbourne's all-night public transport runs on Friday and Saturday only, so for a pre-dawn airport run a booked car is the practical option. Book ahead — the 4–6am slots go first.

Do you pick up from Crown Towers, Metropol and Promenade?

All three. Tell us which tower when you book and we'll set the pickup door, so nobody is crossing the complex with luggage.

How long does it take to Melbourne Airport from Crown?

About 26 min from Southbank outside peak, via the Domain Tunnel and CityLink. Allow longer on a weekday morning, and tell us your flight time when you book — the pickup is set to suit it and the car is flight tracked on the way back.

Is there parking at Crown?

Yes — over 5,000 spaces across two car parks, cashless, with valet at the Atrium Entrance on Whiteman Street. Surcharges can apply during AFL, Marvel Stadium events and other special occasions. Crown Rewards members can get 24-hour free parking after earning 250 points. Rates are on Crown's own site.

Can you handle transport for an event at the Palladium?

Yes. We run multiple vehicles to one schedule with a single point of contact, and stage departures so guests aren't queuing when 1,500 people leave at once. Call 1300 012 018 with the date and the numbers.

Do you surge price on big event nights?

No. The fare is agreed before you travel and doesn't change because a function finished.

Do you have wheelchair accessible vehicles?

Yes, booked in advance, with the drop-off and pickup door agreed beforehand. MPTP members receive 50% off the total fare, up to $60 per trip.

What does it cost?

The fare is agreed before you travel, so you know it before you book rather than watching a meter. Put your pickup and drop-off into the fare estimator for an exact figure, or call 1300 012 018 and we will quote it.

Ready when you are

Book it now, and walk out to a car that’s already at the door.
