Yarra Valley · Victoria

Yarra Valley taxi. Fare agreed before you leave.

The Yarra Valley sits 50 to 65 kilometres north-east of the Melbourne CBD — around an hour's drive via the Eastern Freeway and Maroondah Highway, a little longer to the Healesville end. ME CABS runs it as a booked taxi with the fare agreed before you leave, one way or return, 24 hours a day.

Three ways people use it

Out, back, or on to the airport.

01

One way out, or one way home

A straight run between Melbourne and the valley — no itinerary, no waiting time. Common for guests staying overnight in Healesville or Yarra Glen, or heading home after a long lunch when nobody wants to drive. The fare is quoted on the route, so it does not change if the lunch runs late.

02

Out, wait, and back

The driver stays with you. Useful when you want two or three stops and a guaranteed ride home rather than hoping something is available in Yarra Glen at 5pm. If you want a full day with the stops chosen as you go, that is our hourly hire instead.

03

Yarra Valley to Melbourne Airport

Booked ahead, with the flight tracked, so an early departure out of the valley is not a 4am gamble on availability. The return works the same way: we hold the pickup against your landing time rather than your scheduled time.

What it costs

There is no published Yarra Valley rate, and that is deliberate.

The valley covers a wide spread — Lilydale is a very different trip from Warburton — so a single advertised figure would be wrong for most guests. ME CABS quotes the actual route before you book, and that figure is what you pay. No surge multiplier, no meter running while you sit in Eastern Freeway traffic, and no difference between the quote and the receipt.

Where we go

The whole valley, not just Healesville.

Sedan for one to four, people-mover for five to seven with luggage, and an 11-seat maxi for a group that wants to travel together. Wheelchair-accessible vehicles are available on the same booked basis — MPTP accepted.

  • More than 90 cellar doors are spread across the valley floor, the Upper Yarra and the Healesville end — they are not walkable from one another, which is the usual reason a booked car beats a rideshare out here.
  • Healesville Sanctuary and the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie are the two stops that work in any weather and with children.
  • The Lilydale–Warburton rail trail runs 40 kilometres through the Upper Yarra. We can drop at one end and collect at the other, which a coach cannot do.
Why booked, not hailed

Getting out there is easy. Getting back is the problem.

Availability is the real problem

Regional coverage thins out fast once you are past Lilydale, and it thins out most in the late afternoon when everyone wants to leave at once. A booked car is held for you; an app is a request nobody is obliged to accept.

The fare cannot move

Agreed before departure. Peak-time surge on a 60-kilometre regional run is the difference between a reasonable fare and a memorable one.

The return leg exists

Booked at the same time as the outbound. This is the part guests most often get caught by — getting out there is easy, getting back at 5pm on a Sunday is not.

From the logbook

When everyone else said no

A customer needed to get from Deep Creek in New South Wales to Marysville, over the Black Spur past the top of the valley. They had been told the job was too far and had assumed nobody would take it. ME CABS did.

Long regional runs are a normal part of the work, not an exception we make reluctantly.
Questions

Asked before most Yarra Valley trips.

How much is a taxi to the Yarra Valley?

It depends on where in the valley you are going — Lilydale and Warburton are very different trips — so ME CABS quotes the actual route before you book rather than publishing one rate. The quoted figure is what you pay: no surge, and no meter running in traffic. Call 1300 012 018 or use the fare calculator for your route.

How long does it take to drive to the Yarra Valley from Melbourne?

Around an hour from the Melbourne CBD to the first cellar doors, via the Eastern Freeway and Maroondah Highway, and a little longer to the Healesville end. The valley is 50 to 65 kilometres north-east of the city.

Can you pick us up from the Yarra Valley late at night?

Yes. Dispatch runs 24 hours and the return leg is booked at the same time as the outbound, so the car is held for you rather than requested on the day. This is the part guests most often get caught by.

Can you take a group to the Yarra Valley?

Yes. A people-mover carries five to seven with luggage and an 11-seat maxi takes a group together, so nobody has to be the designated driver or follow in a second car.

Do you take Cabcharge for a Yarra Valley trip?

Yes. Cabcharge is accepted, and MPTP is accepted for eligible riders.

What is the difference between this and your Yarra Valley wine tour?

This page is a point-to-point taxi: out, back, or to the airport, quoted on the route. The wine tour is a 6 to 8 hour private hire where you choose the stops and the driver stays with you all day. If you want a full day in the valley, the hourly hire is the better fit.
