Why Lysterfield

Named after an opera man — and built around a lake.

In 1874, William Saurin Lyster — a selector and operatic impresario — donated land for a school, and the district took his name (back then it stretched all the way to what’s now Rowville). The place has kept its space: around 6,681 people spread across 31.5 km² of bushland and large blocks, in the southern foothills of the Dandenong Ranges — one of the leafiest, most spacious, most settled suburbs in Knox.

And it has a genuine drawcard at its heart: Lysterfield Lake Park, a 1,397-hectare reserve of trails, water and wildlife that pulls well over a million visitors a year. It’s an affluent, quiet, semi-rural pocket with a national-grade playground next door — and ME CABS is the calm, fixed-fare way to get around all of it.

No station — a car is essential

A bushland suburb the railway never reached.

Lysterfield has no railway station, and never has — it stayed semi-rural long after its neighbours filled in. To reach a train you’re driving to Ferntree Gully or out through Rowville first. Out here, on big blocks and bush roads, locals will tell you the plain truth: a car is essential. That’s exactly the gap a booked car fills properly.

The early flight.

Door to terminal — no pre-dawn drive to leave the car at a distant station.

The day at the lake.

A group dropped at Lysterfield Park and picked up after — no second car needed.

The hospital trip.

To Knox Private or Angliss with someone who can't manage the drive.

The late night home.

Down the dark bush roads, the group of five, straight to the gate.

The run to the train.

Dropped at Ferntree Gully or out through Rowville for the city commute.

The Cabcharge trip.

On a docket, door to door, for a local professional.

That’s the job ME CABS does here — not a backup for a train that was never coming, the way a spacious, car-built suburb actually gets around.

Melbourne Airport — both ways

The furthest-out Knox suburb — so the early start matters.

Lysterfield → the airport

Roughly 55 km, about 50–55 minutes off-peak via EastLink and CityLink to Tullamarine. With no station to drive to first, this is the run that counts: door to terminal, flight watched, buffer built in, fixed fare set before you book. No pre-dawn surge.

The airport → Lysterfield

Land, clear the gate, and your booked driver is already arranged. We track the flight, so a delay doesn’t cost you the car. Ride home for the price you were quoted — no scramble at the rank.

Also served: Avalon (AVV) transfers on the same fixed-fare basis.

Cabcharge & family travel

A residential enclave — so the everyday work is simpler.

Lysterfield is a settled, family suburb rather than a business hub, so the everyday work is the dependable car: the airport, the school run, appointments and a night out, from a place where every trip starts with a drive. And the payment stays simple — Cabcharge is accepted on every trip, alongside card and cash, with a fixed fare shown before you book, no card fee on Cabcharge, and accessible vehicles on request.

The everyday Lysterfield trips

  • The dependable family car for the airport & school run
  • Cabcharge accepted on every trip, alongside card & cash
  • Your fixed fare shown before you book
  • No surge and no card fee on Cabcharge
  • Accessible & mobility vehicles on request
Hospital & medical

Hospitals north and south — all a short run.

Knox Private (Wantirna) and Angliss (Upper Ferntree Gully) are the closest hospitals to the north, with Dandenong Hospital and Monash Medical Centre (Clayton) a short run to the south. From a suburb with no station and long bush roads, a booked, fixed-fare car removes the two hardest parts of a hospital trip: timing and uncertainty.

  • Book ahead for an appointment time — the car is there, not hoped for.
  • Discharge pickup when you're ready, door to door, no platform or stairs.
  • Wheelchair-accessible and mobility-friendly vehicles on request.
  • Quiet, clean hybrids — easier on anyone who isn't feeling well.
The signature trip

Lysterfield Lake & the trails — a destination people come to.

Lysterfield Lake Park pulls well over a million visitors a year — and ME CABS is built for the group day: a maxi to get everyone up there and home again, fixed price, no second car and no parking scramble.

The lake, for a family day

Up for a day at the lake

It’s not just for riders. The lake has swimming beaches, canoeing and kayaking, the gentle 6 km Lake Circuit walk, lakeside picnics — and kangaroos almost guaranteed. We bring a group up for the day and collect everyone afterwards, fixed price.

A cleaner ride

A number, not a slogan.

Few suburbs are greener than Lysterfield — a 1,397-hectare conservation park, a lake, bushland on every side, and over 200 species of native wildlife, from kangaroos to platypus. Our fleet fits right in: about 90% hybrid and electric, so the standard ride is simply the cleaner, quieter one — a fitting way to arrive at a conservation park. No badge, no lecture, just the default. Run your trip and see the real estimated emissions versus an older cab.
