Why Knoxfield

The one suburb that carries the council’s own name.

Of all the suburbs in the City of Knox, this is the one that carries the council’s name. Knoxfield is named after Sir George Hodges Knox — a WW1 veteran and long-serving parliamentarian, Speaker of the Victorian Legislative Assembly — the same man the whole city is named for. It grew from market gardens in the 1960s into a settled, affordable, family suburb, and it’s still growing: a major renewal of the old research-institute site is bringing ~400 new homes and wetlands from 2026.

It’s a sport-and-family suburb wrapped around the heart of Knox — Westfield Knox, Knox City and the council offices are right on its edge — with no train station of its own, but EastLink and the Monash on the doorstep. ME CABS is the calm, fixed-fare way to get all of it done.

“By name, Knoxfield is the most ‘Knox’ suburb of all — named for the man the whole city is named after.”

No station — wired by road

No train here. Knoxfield was built around the freeway, not the rail line.

To catch a train you’re bussing or driving to Glen Waverley, Boronia or Ferntree Gully first. What Knoxfield does have is roads — one of the best-connected suburbs in the east, so a booked car isn’t a fallback here, it’s how Knoxfield was always going to travel.

On the doorstep:EastLink (M3)Monash Fwy (M1)Stud RoadBurwood HighwayFerntree Gully Road

The early flight.

Door to terminal up EastLink — no bus-to-a-station relay before dawn.

The kids to training.

Or the whole team in a maxi to a Saturday fixture.

The hospital trip.

To Angliss or Knox Private with someone who can't manage a bus.

The Westfield run.

Home with the week's shopping, door to door.

The late night home.

After the buses stop, straight to the door.

The Cabcharge trip.

On a docket, door to door, for a local business.

That’s the job ME CABS does here — not a backup for a train that isn’t there, the way a road-built suburb actually gets around.

We track your flight
Melbourne Airport — both ways

The run that matters most — no station to bus to.

Knoxfield → the airport

Roughly 52 km, about 45–50 minutes off-peak via EastLink (M3) to Tullamarine — with EastLink on the doorstep and no station to bus to, this is the run that matters most. Flight watched, buffer built in, fixed fare set before you book. No pre-dawn surge.

The airport → Knoxfield

Land, clear the gate, and your booked driver is already arranged. We track the flight, so a delay doesn’t cost you the car. Ride home for the price you were quoted — no scramble at the rank.

Also served: Avalon (AVV) transfers on the same fixed-fare basis.

Cabcharge & club transport

Two kinds of organised travel — and we cover both.

Cabcharge accepted

Across Knoxfield’s food-production, trade and Scoresby / Caribbean Park neighbours — Cabcharge is accepted on every trip, alongside card and cash. Your fixed fare is shown before you book, with no card fee on Cabcharge and an itemised receipt.

Team & club transport

For the suburb’s many sports clubs — athletics, BMX, baseball, softball, soccer, cricket, gymnastics — a booked maxi for the team to an away fixture or competition, on one simple booking. No parent left doing five pickups.

Hospital & medical

Knox Private and Angliss — both a short, station-free run.

Knox Private Hospital in Wantirna and Angliss Hospital in Upper Ferntree Gully are both a short run from Knoxfield — and with no station to bus to, a booked car is the easy way there. For appointments, day procedures, discharge pickups and visiting family, a booked, fixed-fare car removes the two hardest parts: timing and uncertainty.

  • Book ahead for an appointment time — the car is there, not hoped for.
  • Discharge pickup when you're ready, door to door, no platform or stairs.
  • Wheelchair-accessible and mobility-friendly vehicles on request.
  • Quiet, clean hybrids — easier on anyone who isn't feeling well.
The signature trip

Knox’s sport, events & retail heart — not a borrowed mountain.

Few suburbs pack in as much sport as Knoxfield. ME CABS is built for it — a maxi for the team to an away game, a reliable run to training, or transport for visitors coming in for a meet. One booking, fixed price, everyone there on time.

On the doorstep of Knox’s heart

Westfield Knox (newly redeveloped), Knox City and the council offices sit right on Knoxfield’s edge — an easy fixed-fare run with the week’s shopping or a night out. And when you want the green, the Dandenong Ranges are only a few minutes east through Boronia and Ferntree Gully.

Fleet note

About 9 in 10 ME CABS cars are hybrid or electric — primarily Tesla and Lexus hybrids — plus wheelchair-accessible and mobility vehicles on request.

A cleaner ride

A number, not a slogan.

Knoxfield’s green is in its reserves — the Corhanwarrabul Creek linear reserve, Lakewood’s lake and walking track, the parklands, and the new wetlands coming with the research-institute renewal. Our fleet fits that: about 90% hybrid and electric, so the standard ride is simply the cleaner, quieter one. No badge, no lecture — just the default. Run your trip and see the real estimated emissions versus an older cab.
