A hillside town with a London name — and a centre mid-makeover.
Bayswater took its name from Bayswater in London — an 1880s settler called his property “Bayswater House” after his birthplace, and the name stuck. The setting earns it: this is a hillside town with spectacular views to the Dandenongs, the last flat ground before the Belgrave line climbs into the ranges.
Today it’s a designated Major Activity Centre in the middle of a generational makeover — the Bayswater Renewal Strategy, adopted in 2024, reshaping Penguin Place, Macauley Place and the Bayswater Triangle through to 2040. ME CABS is the calm, fixed-fare way to move through all of it.
- London
- Named after Bayswater, London (1880s) — the station was first “Macauley”.
- 2024

- ~12,000

- 3153
- Postcode shared with Bayswater North across the Maroondah border.
There’s a particular calm in knowing the car is already coming. You’re not refreshing an app, watching a price climb, or wondering if anyone will turn up at 4am. It’s booked. It’s a fixed price. It’s a clean, quiet car. Your ride is sorted — see you soon.

Great for the commute. Here’s what a single line can’t do.
Bayswater Station is one of the better ones out here — a premium station rebuilt in 2016 when the level crossing came out, on the Belgrave line, with around 370 parking spaces. For the daily city commute it does the job well. But a single line into the city was never built for the trips that actually need a car.
The early flight with luggage.
Before trains start — no change at Flinders Street dragging bags.
The day in the Dandenongs.
The train reaches Belgrave, but not Sassafras, Olinda or the gardens.
The hospital trip.
To Angliss or Knox Private with someone who can't manage platforms and stairs.
The late night home.
After the last service, or when the carpark's already full.
The group of five with bags.
A maxi to suit, not a packed peak carriage.
The Cabcharge trip.
Door to door, on a docket, for a local business.
That’s the gap ME CABS fills — not a replacement for a good station, the answer for everything the line can’t carry.
Our anchor in the Knox foothills.
The same fixed-fare service runs across the surrounding suburbs and up into the hills.
Bayswater sits in the City of Knox — see the Knox council page for the full picture. Note: Bayswater North is the adjoining Maroondah suburb that shares our postcode (3153) — see our Bayswater North page for the Maroondah side.

Up EastLink to Tullamarine, and back.
Bayswater → the airport
Roughly 50 km, about 45 minutes off-peak via EastLink (M3) to Tullamarine — EastLink is minutes from the centre. We watch your flight, build in a buffer, and have you kerbside in good time. Your fixed fare is set before you book — no surge.
The airport → Bayswater
Land, clear the gate, and your booked driver is already arranged. We track the flight, so a delay doesn’t cost you the car. Ride home for the price you were quoted — no scramble at the rank.
Also served: Avalon (AVV) transfers on the same fixed-fare basis.
The difference is booked-driver certainty.
| When you want… | ME CABS | Rideshare app | Hail / rank taxi |
|---|---|---|---|
| A price you can trust | Fixed, shown before booking | Surges without warning | Metered — unknown till arrival |
| A car that turns up at 4am | Booked & assigned ahead | Depends who's online | Pot luck at the rank |
| Cabcharge accepted | Yes | No | Sometimes |
| A clean hybrid / EV | ~90% of the fleet | Whatever arrives | Whatever arrives |
| Maxi / group & mobility | Booked to suit | Limited | Limited |
Cabcharge accepted, on a fare you can predict.
Bayswater has a real business precinct beside its activity centre, and ME CABS keeps the payment simple: Cabcharge is accepted on every trip, alongside card and cash. Your fixed fare is shown before you book — no surge, and no card fee on Cabcharge, so the cost is known up front on the everyday work run, the airport transfer or a ride across the wider Bayswater North precinct.
Angliss, Knox Private and Maroondah — all a short run.
For Bayswater the natural hospitals are Angliss Hospital in Upper Ferntree Gully and Knox Private Hospital in Wantirna — both a short run from the suburb — with Maroondah Hospital also nearby in Ringwood East. For appointments, day procedures, discharge pickups and visiting family, a booked, fixed-fare car removes the two hardest parts: timing and uncertainty.
- Book ahead for an appointment time — the car is there, not hoped for.
- Discharge pickup when you're ready, door to door, no platform or stairs.
- Wheelchair-accessible and mobility-friendly vehicles on request.
- Quiet, clean hybrids — easier on anyone who isn't feeling well.

Bayswater is the gateway to the Dandenongs.
Bayswater is where Melbourne hands over to the mountains. The Belgrave line climbs straight from here up through Boronia and Ferntree Gully to Belgrave and Puffing Billy — but the train stops at the station, and the best of the Ranges doesn’t. ME CABS takes you the rest of the way on a fixed fare agreed before you leave. No winding mountain roads to drive, no nominated driver, no parking at the lookout.
Where we’ll take you
- Sassafras & Olinda villages
- Mount Dandenong & the lookout
- The gardens & tea rooms
- Yarra Valley wineries
- Puffing Billy & Belgrave
- A long lunch in the hills

Plus
Premium comfort or extra luggage — business travel, that bit of space.
Group
Maxi for families, groups, airport runs, a day in the Ranges or the Valley.
Accessible
Wheelchair-accessible and mobility vehicles on request, subject to availability.
Fleet note
About 9 in 10 ME CABS cars are hybrid or electric — primarily Tesla and Lexus hybrids — plus wheelchair-accessible and mobility vehicles on request.
A number, not a slogan.
Bayswater sits in green country — Marie Wallace Bayswater Park and the Dandenong Creek corridor run through it, and Knox is working toward net-zero with canopy planting across the centre. Our fleet fits right in: about 90% hybrid and electric, so the standard ride is simply the cleaner, quieter one. No badge, no lecture — just the default. Run your trip and see the real estimated emissions versus an older cab.
