The rare suburb named after a flower.
In 1915 a local councillor, A.E. Chandler — who grew the native boronia at his nursery — was asked to name the district, and chose the bloom. The name fits: this is a hilly, tree-lined suburb sitting right on the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges, with views of the National Park on one side and the city on the other.
It’s a leafy, family suburb of around 23,600 people — big established blocks alongside newer townhouses, the well-regarded Boronia K-12 College, a real town centre across Boronia Junction, Boronia Village and Dorset Square, parks and pools. Affordable, green, easygoing. ME CABS is the calm, fixed-fare way to get around it — and up into the hills above it.
“Asked to name the new district in 1915, councillor Chandler chose the flower he grew at his nursery — the boronia.”

A good station, with a remarkable story.
For decades a level crossing split Boronia in two. The line is great for the daily commute — but a single line into the city was never built for the trips that actually need a car.
1952
A suburb split in two
A level crossing — and the tragedy that made change unavoidable.
1998
Put underground
The line went under, joining the two halves of Boronia back together.
2026
Reborn for the hills
A forest-themed station upgrade now underway, nodding to the Ranges above.
The early flight with luggage.
Before trains start — no change at Flinders Street with bags.
The day in the Ranges.
The line reaches Belgrave, but not Birdsland, Sassafras, Olinda or the gardens.
The hospital trip.
To Angliss or Knox Private with someone who can't manage platforms and stairs.
The late night home up the hill.
After the last service, door to door.
The group of five with bags.
A maxi to suit, not a packed peak carriage.
The Cabcharge trip.
On a docket, door to door, for a local business.
That’s the gap ME CABS fills — not a replacement for a good station, the answer for everything the line can’t carry.
Our anchor on the Knox foothills.
The same fixed-fare service runs across the surrounding suburbs and up into the Ranges.
Boronia sits in the City of Knox — see the Knox council page for the full picture. Bayswater is our sibling Knox suburb just to the north-west — see our Bayswater page, the other Knox Ranges gateway.

Down the hill, up EastLink to Tullamarine.
Boronia → the airport
Roughly 52 km, about 45–50 minutes off-peak via EastLink (M3) to Tullamarine. We watch your flight, build in a buffer, and have you kerbside in good time. Your fixed fare is set before you book — no early-morning surge.
The airport → Boronia
Land, clear the gate, and your booked driver is already arranged. We track the flight, so a delay doesn’t cost you the car. Ride home up the hill for the price you were quoted — no scramble at the rank.
Also served: Avalon (AVV) transfers on the same fixed-fare basis.
The difference is booked-driver certainty.

A family suburb with a busy town centre.
ME CABS keeps it simple: a reliable car for the family — school runs, appointments, the airport — with Cabcharge accepted on every trip, alongside card and cash. Your fixed fare is shown before you book, with no card fee on Cabcharge and an itemised receipt after the trip.
Angliss is right next door.
Angliss Hospital is right next door in Upper Ferntree Gully, with Knox Private Hospital in Wantirna close by — both an easy run from anywhere in Boronia. For appointments, day procedures, discharge pickups and visiting family, a booked, fixed-fare car removes the two hardest parts: timing and uncertainty.
- Book ahead for an appointment time — the car is there, not hoped for.
- Discharge pickup when you're ready, door to door, no platform or stairs.
- Wheelchair-accessible and mobility-friendly vehicles on request.
- Quiet, clean hybrids — easier on anyone who isn't feeling well.

Boronia doesn’t lead to the Ranges. It’s already on them.
The National Park is on the skyline, Birdsland Reserve and the Belgrave Rail Trail start right here, and the road climbs straight up into mountain country. The train reaches Belgrave; the best of the forest doesn’t. ME CABS takes you the rest of the way on a fixed fare agreed before you leave — a day in the hills, a long lunch, a winery run — with a driver who isn’t one of your group, and no mountain roads to drive yourself.
Where we’ll take you

- Mount Dandenong & SkyHigh
- Birdsland Reserve & the rail trail
- The tea rooms & gardens
- Belgrave & Puffing Billy
- Yarra Valley wineries

Fleet note
About 9 in 10 ME CABS cars are hybrid or electric — primarily Tesla and Lexus hybrids — plus wheelchair-accessible and mobility vehicles on request.
A number, not a slogan.
Few suburbs are greener than Boronia — named after a wildflower, ringed by the National Park, with Birdsland Reserve and the rail trails on its edge. Our fleet fits right in: about 90% hybrid and electric, so the standard ride is simply the cleaner, quieter one. No badge, no lecture — just the default, and a fitting one for a suburb this green. Run your trip and see the real estimated emissions versus an older cab.
