Why Mulgrave

The suburb that named the freeway.

Mulgrave has punched above its weight in Melbourne’s story. It gave its name to the Mulgrave Freeway — now the Monash — and its Jacksons Road interchange is still the point radio traffic reports use to clock the run into the city. And in 1970 it became home to Waverley Park: the first stadium ever purpose-built for Australian football, its heritage-listed grandstand still standing beside the freeway.

Named after Mulgrave Castle in Yorkshire, it’s a suburb of around 20,000 with two clear sides: leafy streets around Waverley Gardens and the old football ground, and — along Wellington Road — one of the country’s most significant business precincts. Practical, well-connected, and working hard — and ME CABS covers everything the freeway can’t do door to door.

Home of football

Waverley Park was the first stadium built specifically for AFL football — once meant to be one of the biggest in the world, host to the 1991 Grand Final and huge crowds for decades. Most of it is now a residential estate, but the heritage-listed grandstand and oval remain, visible from the freeway. A genuine piece of Melbourne, and a nice story for a cab company to carry.

The business engine

Along Wellington Road sits one of the country’s biggest office precincts — the Monash cluster, Melbourne’s largest jobs hub outside the CBD, with the national head offices of Nissan, Bosch, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Kmart among them. That’s a lot of airport runs, client pickups and after-work functions — ME CABS runs them all, on a fixed fare, with Cabcharge accepted.

And the local heart

On the residential side there’s Waverley Gardens shopping centre, the landmark Village Green Hotel, and the well-loved Sunday Mulgrave Farmers’ Market — the everyday trips that start or end at home: the airport, a day out, the run back with the shopping.

Hospital & medical travel

The Clayton health precinct — a short run west.

The Clayton health precinct — Monash Medical Centre, Jessie McPherson Private and the Victorian Heart Hospital — is a short run west of Mulgrave, with other options across the south-east. For appointments, day procedures, discharge pickups and visiting family, a booked, fixed-fare car removes the two hardest parts — timing and uncertainty.

ME CABS provides non-emergency patient and visitor transport — for emergencies always call 000.

Appointments & day surgery

On time, dropped at the right entrance.

Discharge

A reliable ride home when you can't drive after a procedure.

Visiting family

Cabcharge & the business precinct

Melbourne’s biggest jobs hub outside the CBD.

Wellington Road is one of the largest business precincts in the country — the Monash National Employment & Innovation Cluster, with the national head offices of Nissan, Bosch, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Kmart among many others. That’s a lot of staff airport runs, client pickups and after-hours travel — and ME CABS keeps it simple: Cabcharge accepted on every trip, alongside card and cash, with a fixed fare shown before you book, no card fee on Cabcharge, and an itemised receipt after the trip.

A cleaner ride

Green along the creek.

Mulgrave’s green runs along the Dandenong Creek corridor and the Bushy Park wetlands at Jells Park, and into the Green Star-rated office towers along Wellington Road. Our fleet fits that: about 90% hybrid and electric, so the standard ride is simply the cleaner, quieter one. No badge, no lecture — just the default.

The Feeling

You can drive the freeway to work, but not when it’s the 6am flight, the client you’re collecting from the airport, or the after-work function where the car should stay parked. For those trips, there’s a particular calm in knowing the car is already booked. It’s booked. It’s a fixed price. It’s a clean, quiet car.
