Why Oakleigh

The heart of Hellenism.

Oakleigh isn’t really a suburb — it’s a place with its own gravity. For decades it was a city in its own right, with the City of Oakleigh council until the 1994 Monash amalgamation: its own CBD, a town hall, a courthouse and brickworks that once supplied around a fifth of Melbourne’s bricks. Those big-town bones are still there in the grand old buildings around Drummond Street.

But what Oakleigh is best known for today is Eaton Mall — the beating heart of Greek Melbourne. Around one in eight residents speaks Greek at home, and the pedestrian mall has become the city’s Greek square, its “Little Athens”, lined with tavernas, kafenions and frappé bars that fill day and night. People travel from across Melbourne just to eat here — and ME CABS covers everything the train can’t, from the early flight to the ride home from dinner.

A train-rich activity centre

Well-connected. We do what the train can’t.

Oakleigh is one of the best-connected centres in Monash: its station sits on the Pakenham and Cranbourne lines — now running through the new Metro Tunnel — rebuilt and made fully accessible in 2018, with eleven bus routes fanning out from the interchange. For the daily commute into the city it’s genuinely excellent, and we’d never argue with that. We’re for the trips the train and the bus were never going to do.

Little Athens

Eaton Mall is Melbourne’s Greek square — tavernas and kafenions spilling onto the pedestrian street, souvlaki and frappé, live music on a warm night. It’s the heart of one of the largest Greek communities outside Greece, and people come from all over Melbourne to eat and gather here. For a taxi company, that’s a gift: a real destination, busy every night.

The night out, sorted

Which is exactly the trip we do best: dropped at the Mall for dinner, collected when you’re done — a fixed fare each way, no parking, no driving, no Saturday-night surge. Bring the whole table with a maxi. It’s the run home after a long Greek lunch, done properly and safely.

And beyond the food

Oakleigh Central for the shopping, the historic Drummond Street precinct with its grand old civic buildings, and the Museum of Australian Photography (MAPh) a short hop away — all easy fixed-fare trips, there and back.

Hospital & medical travel

The Clayton health precinct — a short run east.

Monash Medical Centre and the Victorian Heart Hospital in Clayton are a short run east of Oakleigh, with Cabrini in Malvern a short run west. For appointments, day procedures, discharge pickups and visiting family, a booked, fixed-fare car removes the two hardest parts — timing and uncertainty.

ME CABS provides non-emergency patient and visitor transport — for emergencies always call 000.

For diners heading home, traders and locals alike, ME CABS keeps it simple: Cabcharge accepted on every trip, alongside card and cash, with a fixed fare shown before you book, no card fee on Cabcharge, and an itemised receipt after the trip. A cleaner ride

Green along the creek trails.

Oakleigh’s green runs along the Scotchmans Creek and Djerring trails — now linked by the new Atkinson Street cycleway — and through the leafy Drummond Street precinct. Our fleet fits that: about 90% hybrid and electric, so the standard ride is simply the cleaner, quieter one. No badge, no lecture — just the default.

For those, there’s a particular calm in knowing the car is already booked. No refreshing an app, no watching a Saturday-night price climb. It’s booked. It’s a fixed price. It’s a clean, quiet car.
