A suburb named by its neighbours.
Ashwood’s name tells you exactly where it is — coined by blending its two neighbours, Ashburton and Burwood, because it sits right between them. It’s a planned post-war suburb: built largely in the 1950s as the Housing Commission’s Jordanville estate, in cream brick and concrete prefabricated just down the road at Holmesglen, before “Ashwood” took over from “Jordanville” around 1956.
Today it’s an established, leafy, well-connected suburb of around 7,150 — quietly central, with Gardiners Creek and its trails along the north, Holmesglen TAFE on the edge, and Chadstone just minutes away.

3
edge stations ring the suburb
Well-served for the commute — just not from its own centre.
Ashwood is one of the better-connected suburbs in Monash, but it has no station of its own. The Glen Waverley line runs along its southern edge, so three stations ring the suburb — handy for the city commute. But a station on the edge still can’t do the trips that matter most.
The early flight with luggage
Door to terminal, no walk to a platform before dawn.
The Chadstone run with the shopping
Dropped at the entrance, no circling the car park.
The hospital trip to Monash Medical Centre
Door to door for someone who can't manage stairs.
The late night, the group of five, the account trip
Door to door, on a fixed fare, whenever you need it.
That’s the gap ME CABS fills — not a replacement for a handy line, the answer for everything it can’t carry.

Ashwood → MEL
Land early or late, your driver already knows. No surge on a delayed flight.
One of the shorter airport runs in Monash.
Ashwood sits close in — roughly 33 km and 35–40 minutes off-peak via the Monash Freeway and CityLink to Tullamarine. We watch your flight, build in a buffer, and set your fixed fare before you book — no early-morning surge. Avalon (AVV) too, on the same fixed-fare basis.

Help with bags, door to door
The Boyd igloos & Chadstone on the doorstep.
The Robin Boyd “igloos”
Ashwood’s quiet claim to fame sits on High Street Road: a row of unusual parabolic-concrete “igloo” shops, designed in 1952 by the celebrated architect Robin Boyd as an economical post-war building method, and now listed on the Victorian Heritage Register. A reminder that this planned 1950s suburb has more character than it’s given credit for — and a neat bit of local trivia for the trip home.
Chadstone & the everyday reach
Then there’s the location. Chadstone — the biggest shopping centre in the country — is minutes up Warrigal Road, and ME CABS does the run with the arms full of bags and no parking circles. Add The Glen at Glen Waverley, Ashburton’s shops, the city in about 20 minutes, and the Gardiners Creek trail for a greener day — all on a fixed fare agreed before you leave.
A short, familiar run to the health precinct.
Monash Medical Centre and the new Victorian Heart Hospital in Clayton are a short run from Ashwood, with Waverley Private (Mount Waverley) closer still. For appointments, day procedures, discharge pickups and visiting family, a booked, fixed-fare car removes the two hardest parts — timing and uncertainty.
ME CABS provides non-emergency patient and visitor transport — for emergencies always call 000.

Beside Holmesglen TAFE and the Chadstone offices.
Ashwood is mostly residential, but it sits beside real demand: Holmesglen TAFE on its edge, the Chadstone office towers minutes away, and the wider Monash Technology Precinct a short drive east. ME CABS covers the everyday family trips and the work airport run — with Cabcharge accepted on every trip, alongside card and cash, a fixed fare shown before you book, and accessible vehicles on request.

Holmesglen TAFE
Staff and student movements on the edge of the suburb.
Chadstone offices
The office towers minutes up Warrigal Road.
Cabcharge accepted
Alongside card and cash, with an itemised receipt.
Predictable fixed fares
Reconciles cleanly on every trip record.
When getting there matters, the difference shows.
| When you want… | ME CABS | Rideshare app | Hail / rank taxi |
|---|---|---|---|
| A price you can trust | Fixed, shown before booking | Surges without warning | Metered — unknown till arrival |
| A car that turns up at 4am | Booked & assigned ahead | Depends who's online | Pot luck at the rank |
| Cabcharge accepted | Yes | No | Sometimes |
| A clean hybrid / EV | ~90% of the fleet | Whatever arrives | Whatever arrives |
| Maxi / group & mobility | Booked to suit | Limited | Limited |
The contrast is booked-driver certainty: a confirmed driver at a price locked before you travel, the runs others decline, Cabcharge handled properly — and a booking you can actually see and change afterwards.

Our fleet — about 9 in 10 hybrid & electric
Primarily Tesla and Lexus hybrids — cleaner, quieter and more comfortable than an older cab — plus wheelchair-accessible and mobility vehicles on request. A greener ride that doesn’t cost you certainty.
Green along the creeks.
Ashwood’s green runs along its creeks — the Gardiners Creek and Scotchmans Creek trails, the reserves and sports grounds. Our fleet fits that: about 90% hybrid and electric, so the standard ride is simply the cleaner, quieter one. No badge, no lecture — just the default.
