Why Mount Waverley

The map every Melbourne cabbie once carried.

Mount Waverley was named in 1853 after Sir Walter Scott’s Waverley novels — the “mount” for the rise up from the valley to the south. But its most famous export is more practical: the Melway, Melbourne’s legendary street directory, was created here in 1966 and is still published from Ricketts Road. For decades it was the map in every taxi, ambulance and police car in the city.

A nice piece of history for a cab company to carry: we’ve swapped the paperback for GPS, but the job’s the same — know the city, and get you there.

Today it’s a large, leafy, established suburb of around 35,000 — heritage streets from the 1930s, generous gardens, and one of Melbourne’s most sought-after school catchments, home to a strongly multicultural, education-focused community. Professional, family-minded, well-connected — and ME CABS covers everything the trains and the freeway can’t do door to door.

A big suburb, well connected

Two stations and a freeway. We do the door-to-door.

Mount Waverley is one of the best-connected suburbs in Monash: two stations on the Glen Waverley line — Mount Waverley in the heart of the Village, and Jordanville to the west — plus the Monash Freeway running along the southern edge and buses through Pinewood and the Village. For the daily commute, it’s hard to beat. We’re for the trips the train and the freeway were never going to do.

The early flight with luggage

Door to terminal, no pre-dawn drive-and-park or change of trains.

The school & family run

The event across town, the airport pickup for visiting family, the trip when both parents are working.

The work, late-night & hospital trip

The business run, the group of five, Monash Medical Centre, the Cabcharge trip home — door to door.

Two village hearts

Mount Waverley has two hearts: the Mount Waverley Village around the station — cafés, shops and the library — and Pinewood Shopping Centre in the south-east, a well-loved neighbourhood strip. ME CABS handles the trips that start or end at either: the airport, a dinner in the city, a day out, or the run home with the shopping.

The school suburb

Families move to Mount Waverley for the schools — Mount Waverley Secondary College among the largest and most respected in the state, plus strong primary and private options nearby. That means real demand for the trips schools create: the airport run for a visiting relative, the exam-morning lift, the interstate sport or music trip, the parent working across town.

A piece of cab history

There’s a nice symmetry in a taxi company serving the birthplace of the Melway — the directory Melbourne’s drivers relied on for forty years, drawn and still published right here. We’ve swapped the paperback for GPS, but the job’s the same: know the city, and get you there.

Hospital & medical travel

A private hospital on the doorstep.

Waverley Private Hospital on Blackburn Road has served the area since 1972, and the Clayton health precinct — Monash Medical Centre and the Victorian Heart Hospital — is a short run south-east, with Cabrini in Malvern to the west. For appointments, day procedures, discharge pickups and visiting family, a booked, fixed-fare car removes the two hardest parts — timing and uncertainty.

ME CABS provides non-emergency patient and visitor transport — for emergencies always call 000.

Appointments & day surgery

On time, dropped at the right entrance.

Discharge

A reliable ride home when you can't drive after a procedure.

Visiting family

Accessible vehicles

Cabcharge accepted

A big, professional suburb — with a real working population.

Mount Waverley is a big, professional suburb — managers, professionals, and the businesses along the Village, Pinewood and the Ricketts Road / Springvale Road commercial and light-industrial pockets. ME CABS keeps the payment simple: Cabcharge is accepted on every trip, alongside card and cash, with a fixed fare shown before you book and no card fee on Cabcharge — the reliable option for staff airport runs, client pickups and the after-hours trip home, with accessible vehicles on request.

Our fleet — about 9 in 10 hybrid & electric

Primarily Tesla and Lexus hybrids — cleaner, quieter and more comfortable than an older cab — plus wheelchair-accessible and mobility vehicles on request. A greener ride that doesn’t cost you certainty.

A cleaner ride

Green along the creek corridors.

Mount Waverley is one of the greener suburbs in Monash — the bushland reserves at Valley Reserve and Damper Creek, and the Scotchmans Creek trail threading south toward Oakleigh. Our fleet fits that: about 90% hybrid and electric, so the standard ride is simply the cleaner, quieter one. No badge, no lecture — just the default.

A number, not a slogan — run your trip and see the real estimated emissions for a hybrid versus an older cab.

The Feeling

You can take the train to work, but not to the airport at dawn with two suitcases, or to the hospital with someone who can’t manage stairs, or home from a school event on the far side of town. For those trips, there’s a particular calm in knowing the car is already booked. It’s booked. It’s a fixed price. It’s a clean, quiet car.
